Course Description:

Psychotropic Medication Prescribing for the Child and Adolescent Population

Pediatricians and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists can benefit from additional training specific to prescribing Psychotropic Medications for Children and Adolescents.  Our course will cover appropriate pharmacology, dosaging and side effects specific to prescribing for child and adolescents and will increase awareness and safety.  Will also demonstrate appropriate monitoring techniques.  These specific strategies are not presented in basic medical education.

Upon the completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic pharmacology of common psychotropic medicaitons prescribed to children and adolescents.
  • Identify the indications for prescribing psychotropic medications and hot wo dose psychotropic medications appropriately.
  • Identify the common side effects of psychotropic medications including the black box warnings and demonstrate how to appropriately monitor for the common side effects.
